Nagasaki Day II

Sonntag/Sunday, 7.11.

Morgens schon um 7:30 zum Fruehstueck. Es war soo lecker! Und es gab so viele Sachen, sowohl japanisches als auch auslaendisches Essen. Nicht schlecht.
Dann waren wir in einem Park in der Naehe des Hotels, am Meer. Mit Spielplatz fuer die Kinder. Traumhafte Aussicht!!

Breakfast at 7:30. Soo delicious!! Loads of food, Japanese one as well as American/European food. Not bad!
Then we went to another park just a few minutes from the hotel by the sea. There was even a playground for the kids. Amazing view!

Ausserdem gibt es in der Naehe eine recht bekannte Bruecke (Namen vergessen, sorry!), fuer Fussgaenger gibt es einen kaefig-artigen Durchgang, recht kuehl, aber schoene Aussicht ueber das Meer.

There's also a rather famous bridge in the area. For pedestrians, there's a special passage underneath the one for vehicles.
It was quite chilly there, but again...wonderful view!

Der Rest des Tages war wieder eher geschichtlich orientiert. Wir waren in diesem Peace Park in der Naehe des Einschlagsortes, da steht diese bekannte Statue:

The rest of the day was devoted to history-things again. We went to that Peace Park with this famous statue:

Ich hab mir die Infotafel durchgelesen und bin jetzt voll informiert: 1955 erbaut, als Aufruf zu Weltfrieden und als Gebet, dass so etwas nie wieder passiert.
Die rechte Hand symbolisiert die von Atomwaffen ausgehende Gefahr, waehrend die linke eben fuer Weltfrieden steht. An mehr kann ich mich nicht erinnern...

I read the information board, so I now know that it was built in 1955, as an appeal for lasting world peace and a prayer that a tragedy like this would never be repeated.
The right hand stands for the threat of nuclear weapons while the left hand symbolizes tranquility and world peace. I don't remember the rest...

Die Hollaender von Samstag waren auch wieder da, sehr lustig: Die haben vor der Statue ein Foto mit einem Dutzend Japaner gemacht, und waehrend die Japaner da alle total ernst und regungslos sassen, haben die Hollaender die ganze Zeit irgendwelche Faxen gemacht. Also es wirkte nicht respektlos oder so, aber war sehr lustig anzusehen.
Etwa 100 Meter von der Statue entfernt gibt es dann noch 'The Fountain of Peace', ausserdem viele Statuen aus verschiedenen Laendern der Welt.

I also saw those Dutchmen again, quite funny: They took a photo in front of the statue together with about 20 Japanese. While these people sat there motionless and with a serious expression, the Dutchmen were larking around all the time. I mean it didn't appear inappropriate or something like that, but it was nice to look at xDD
About 100 metres from that statue there's that 'Fountain of Peace', and also many statues from various countries.

Als wir da durch waren, wurde ich gefragt, ob ich auch noch das Denkmal an der Stelle der Explosion sehen moechte. Ja hallo...Wer sagt bei sowas bitte 'Ne, interessiert mich nicht.'??
Also, an der Stelle ist jetzt so ein riesiger schwarzer Steinblock, auf einem grossen Platz mit weiteren Statuen und Baenken.

Once we had looked at them all, I was asked whether I'd like to visit the bomb site. Seriously, who would reply 'No, not interested' in that situation??

So there's now a black monument with other statues and benches around it.

Alles in allem ein wirklich interessanter Aufenthalt, die Stadt ist auch wunderschoen...Momentan Nummer eins meiner Lieblingsstaedte Japans!!

All in all I really enjoyed my stay in Nagasaki, the city is beautiful...At the moment my favourite city in Japan =D
